ASCEND is the new Youth Programme of Hillview Community Church. We are a group of young people passionate about our faith in Jesus, seeking to learn more about him and to live lives which serve and honour him.
We are real people who believe that the bible is just as relevant today as it was when it was first written. What’s more, we believe that in it we find the answer to every challenge we face today in our worlds.
The programme is designed for young people in school years from S1 – S6. We meet on a Sunday night at Hillview Community Church from 6pm-8pm for worship, prayer, bible study and fun! We also get together for weekend’s away, special worship events and socials.
What Do You Value?
At ASCEND, we love:
The Bible
We believe it is the very word of God and that we should try our best to understand and apply it.
The Gospel
We believe that we have awesome news to share about the love of Jesus and that we should do our best to share that news.
Worship
We believe that God is amazing and that we should praise Him with joy, passion and commitment.
Prayer
We believe that prayer is powerful. That when we pray, God listens and that we should pray regularly to Him and for each other.
Each Other
We are family; we believe that God has made everyone special and that we should love and care for each other.
Having Fun
We believe our faith is alive, it is exciting and it should be fun. We will enjoy the freedom we have in Christ.
What Should I Expect?
On a Sunday night, we get together from 6-8pm. We start by spending some time worshipping through song and praying together. We will then open the bible and teach relevant, biblical lessons. After our teaching time, we will split into separate age groups (S1-3 and S4-6) to discuss the lesson and try to understand it’s application to our lives.
After our time in worship and teaching, we enjoy some time to fellowship. We play games, hangout and have fun!
What Does ‘ASCEND’ Mean?
ASCEND reflects something of the journey that we are on as a people trying to walk with the Lord. The scriptures speak many times of the “hill of the Lord” or times in which the Lord met with his people on the mountain. We want to echo the words of the Psalmist who sought to “ASCEND the hill of the Lord”. In other words, we want to try and strive for the best that the Lord has for us. We want to be faithful, to press on and journey together, encouraging each other as we go.
We want to “press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me” (Philippians 3:12)
